Phase field simulation of Laser Metal Deposition

The video shows a phase field modelling of laser metal deposition process which uses the Allen-Cahn based grain growth model and a coupled Allen-Cahn model for distinguishing between liquid and solid-phases using the zeta and phi parameters, notice that the anisotropy of the grains under a temperature gradient is considered and thus they move with the passing heat source. 

 

The simulation has been performed using open-source FEA software, MOOSE.
